Expert Maintenance & Repairs

Vehicle service intervals can be broken down into major and minor services, with each focusing on different maintenance tasks to ensure your car runs efficiently and reliably. The intervals for both types of services vary depending on the make, model, and year of the vehicle, as well as the type of driving you do.

Minor Service

Typically Every 15,000 Kilometers

Minor services are usually done at regular intervals and tend to be more basic maintenance tasks. Here’s what is typically included:

  • Oil Change: Replace engine oil and oil filter.
  • Fluid Levels Check: Check and top off essential fluids like engine coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, and windshield washer fluid.
  • Air Filter Inspection: Check the engine air filter for cleanliness and replace if necessary.
  • Tire Check: Inspect tires for wear and tear, check tire pressure, and rotate tires (if applicable).
  • Battery Check: Inspect battery condition and clean the terminals if needed.
  • Lights & Indicators Check: Ensure headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and other lights are working.
  • Windshield Wipers & Washer Fluid: Check the condition of wipers and ensure the washer system is working.

Major Service

Typically Every 30,000 Kilometers

Major services are more comprehensive and often involve replacing or inspecting critical components that wear out over time. The specific intervals for major services depend on the vehicle’s age and manufacturer recommendations.

  • Oil and Filter Change: As part of general maintenance, the oil and filter will be changed, but this is also done during minor services.
  • Air Filter and Cabin Filter Replacement: These filters might be replaced more regularly during a major service.
  • Fuel System Service: Clean fuel injectors and replace the fuel filter (if applicable).
  • Coolant Flush: Replace old coolant with new, ensuring the cooling system works efficiently.
  • Brake System Check: Inspect brake pads, rotors, and brake lines. Replace pads and fluid as needed.
  • Timing Belt or Chain Replacement: If the vehicle has a timing belt (not a timing chain), it often needs to be replaced between 96,000 to 160,000 km to avoid catastrophic engine damage.
  • Transmission Fluid Change: Some vehicles require a transmission fluid change every 48,000 to 96,000 km, though many modern cars have “lifetime” fluids that don’t need replacing unless there’s an issue.
  • Drive Belts and Chains: Check and replace drive belts or chains, which can wear out over time.
  • Spark Plugs Replacement: Replace spark plugs, usually between 48,000 to 160,000 km, depending on the type used.
  • Tire Alignment & Suspension Check: Inspect the suspension system, steering components, and wheel alignment.
  • Battery & Charging System Check: Perform a more thorough check of the battery, alternator, and charging system.
  • Comprehensive Inspection of Engine Components: Includes a check for leaks, worn parts, and other potential issues.
